The Krups KM4065 is a lower-mid range coffee maker that retails for around $120 at list price. It gets overalls quite good reviews, with some reports of malfunction and poor workmanship.

The KM4065 rates highly with customers for its attractive design, its ease of use, and good automatic features. It also makes a good cup of coffee. But it scored some negative points because it does not have a thermal carafe and the glass carafe provided is somewhat wimpy and easily breakable. There are some reports of the carafe melting when overheated! There are also reports of broken carafes being unreplaceable, since no replacement carafes are available for this machine (or they weren’t at the time). The carafe also allows steam to exit the pot and burn your thumb!

There are also some reports of the coffee not being hot enough, and of the coffee maker being too loud, so loud that some customers actually returned the machine because of it.

So even though this machine makes a good pot of coffee, there are enough complaints about it that I wouldn’t consider buying one. Krups has a lot of coffeemakers that get much better reviews.

KRUPS KM1000

The Krups KM1000 is a coffeemaker made of stainless steel, with a glass carafe. It holds 10 cups of ocffee in each pot. While some consumers complain of leaks from the glass carafe while pouring (an incredibly common complaint for glass carafes), I personally have had few problems pouring. I am used to simply pressing my thumb against the lid while pouring the make sure it stays as tightly shut as possible. Simple.

The KM1000 retails for $96 at list price, and in terms of features it is very typical of this price range. It has auto-features and a timer that allow you to wake up to a freshly brewed pot of coffee in the morning. It also features and auto-pause function, so when you remove the carafe to pour yourself a cup, the drip automatically stops until you put the carafe back in. These features are nothing revolutionary, just basic mid-range coffee maker features.

It also features a translucent water tank with water level windows so you can see how much water is in the tank. And its filter basket is easily removable and easy to clean. Again, just basic features here, but they’re all reliably done.

The main complaints about the Krups KM1000 are due to breakage and trouble replacing the broken carafe. In today’s era of outsourcing manufacture to developing countries, this is sadly all too common. Even if you buy your machine in the USA, the parts may all come from China or elsewhere, and the company passes the buck to its suppliers overseas. Hopefully all companies will realize that customer service and taking responsibility for product quality is what builds customer loyalty and ensures future purchases.

For the number of malfunction reports I have read about the Krups KM1000, you are probably better off buying a much cheaper coffee maker for the same quality. Either that or buy a higher quality medium range machine for the same price.
